Welcome to the Sigma International Leadership Academy (SILA)! The SILA is a result of deliberate evaluation of the leadership needs and vision of our great brotherhood and of the communities we serve. We believe the roles of leaders have changed dramatically over the last 50 years. Leaders must become capable of implementing instructional, organizational and cultural change. Leaders must be equipped to adapt to communication changes in a web 2.0 and social networking environment, environmental and global changes as evidenced by the need for energy independence and global communications and economics.
The Sigma Academy is a direct response to the leadership needs of our various markets. The mission of the SILA is to provide a practical framework that enhances individuals’ capacity to think and to engage in critical dialogue at higher levels and to affect personal, organizational and environmental mandates to meet the diverse societal demands facing today’s leaders.
In addition to a number of leadership opportunities throughout the year, this summer we offer two important opportunities during Phi Beta Sigma 2009 International Conclave in New Orleans.
- Conclave Learning Labs to provide focus and strategic leadership development for Sigma men and to emphasize the programmatic focus of the Fraternity.
- The 2009 Community Conference to the boarder community with a specific emphasis on programs and conversations around health disparities elimination and Green Economy and leadership development
We have designed an agenda presented by an exceptional group of nationally renowned and regionally recognized speakers that will lead and facilitate learning. We believe you will leave motivated to achieve their leadership potential and positively impact your campuses and communities through practical, focused training and opportunities to collaborate with individuals and organizations.
At this event, we are please to partner with Southern University Research and Extension Center on the 2009 Community Conference and the other partners such as Tulane University School of Medicine, and Center for Disease Control, State Farm 50 Million Pound Challenge, Communities of Color, American Cancer Society, National March of Dimes, The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Louisiana Health Care Review and the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation.
