Brother Rafael Matos grew up in the Bronx, NY. After high school, he moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California (USC). While at USC, he majored in Fine Arts with a minor in Sociology. After completing his undergraduate studies, he began graduate school, pursuing a Masters of Public Art Studies and later a Masters in Education (with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration). He has worked at large private and public schools, as well as small private liberal arts colleges. He has experience in residential life, disability services, Greek life and student advising. Currently, he works for housing services at Cal Poly Pomona.

Brother Matos was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., on May 15, 1999, at USC, through Alpha Upsilon Chapter. He reactivated Nu Upsilon Chapter (USC), as well as the Theta Alpha Sigma Chapter (Long Beach Alumni). He is a financial Life Member in Phi Beta Sigma Chapter. He serves as advisor to Alpha Upsilon and Nu Upsilon Chapters, and as Western Region Secretary. He has a passion for working with collegiate Brothers and is always looking for opportunities to engage undergraduates in personal and professional development.
